Summer 2012 Bucket List Update

1. Swimming Lessons for Rowan- Done!  Rowan did awesome at swimming lessons this year.  I was very excited to see him bopping his head under water and starting to actually swim!

2. Science Camp for Rowan at Discovery Center- Rowan had a ball at science camp.  Monday he made a volcano, Tuesday he made slime, Wednesday he made pudding, and then today he made a parachute.  He was a little heartbroken when another child had apparently picked up his parachute and taken it home today, but I think he had fun!  He said he wants to go again, so I know that is a good sign!

3. Vacation Bible Camp at SWUMC for Rowan and I'll volunteer as well.-I have signed up to volunteer to lead a preschool class. This isn't until July!

4. Camping as a family-this is out of my comfort zone;-)-This one could get interesting.  The lake we were going to go to is closed due to an algae problem.  Not sure if we will go camping or not.  Stay tuned.

5. Read 6 books for pleasure.- Ongoing.  So far, I have finished two.  Fifty Shades of Freed and Untraceables.  I am almost done with a third titled, Swim.  It looks like I will finish up this goal!

6. Run 3 times a week.- Ongoing.  I ran twice so far this week, and I am to run tonight at 8 p.m. with a friend.

7. Go on 2 dates with Big Al.-Big Al and I went on Date 1 last night.  We went and saw the movie, The Hunger Games.  I had read the books, so I felt a little slided in knowing how it was going to end.  The production of the movie was great, and I thought they kept it very real to the books.  We ran to Orange Leaf after the movie for some frozen yogurt.  I had peanut butter and coffee.  It was yummilicious.  Alex ate some pistachio that was also delicious.

We also booked flights to Denver, Colorado in early August.  Big Al has a meeting, so I am going to tag along with him-without kids.  Eek!  I'm kind of a mess, as I just don't leave my kids.  It will be a nice little break from them, but I am quite nervous to leave them in someone else's care for that long.

Summer Week 2 in Pictures

Isla Hope climbing up a slide at a playdate at Sonic.

Rowan was singing as he walked up the slide!

Swimming pool fun in the yard!

Isla loved to fill the pool with the hose, but she wasn't a fan of the coldness!

Rowan escorting Isla around in his police car!

I made some wall art with the kids' handprints. Love them!

Daddy rocking Miss Isla to sleep one night.

Rowan went in to Isla's room to wake her up one afternoon.  This was the sight when I entered her room.

There was a zoo trip last week.  Mr. Row looks pretty cute as a penguin!

Summer Bucket List Update

1. Swimming Lessons for Rowan-Ongoing!  I am loving the lessons Rowan is in this year.  The teacher is a PE teacher, and she is fabulous.  He is the only little boy in a class of 5, but she is so patient with him!  He is going to be a fish, and you should see his tan;-)

2. Science Camp for Rowan at Discovery Center-This is next week.  Rowan is excited!

3. Vacation Bible Camp at SWUMC for Rowan and I'll volunteer as well.-I have signed up to volunteer to lead a preschool class.  This isn't until July!

4. Camping as a family-this is out of my comfort zone;-)-Nothing done on this yet~

5. Read 6 books for pleasure.-I finished Fifty Shades of Freed last week.  It was amazing!  I have started a new series called, Untraceable.  It is quite different, but I am okay with that.  It is a female protagonist who helps hide women in battered situations.  It seems to be suspense, and I'm really liking it!

6. Run 3 times a week.-Ongoing.  I did run 3 times last week.  A 4 mile, and two 2 mile jaunts.  I've gained 7 pounds since school has gotten out!  Read it-7!  Truth be known, I'm so busy in the school day, that I don't eat a lot, and I don't have time to think about it.  At home, I'm finding myself snacking more and actually eating three meals a day.  I need to find some balance here.

7. Go on 2 dates with Big Al.-Sitter is lined up for next Thursday for Date 1.  Yeah!  I received some movie tickets for my birthday from some dear friends, so we are going to go to a movie.  It will be a nice retreat for us!

I'm not doing too bad!

Wild Wednesday!

I am going to post today just simply because it has been awesome!

The kids and I started the day with a craft project!  Together we painted a couple of white canvases, and then we are going to put their little hand prints on them when Alex gets home!  Rowan loved to paint and actually did a pretty good job!

We bopped off to swimming lessons where Rowan continues to do fantastic.  When we got home, we took some quick pictures, rode bikes, and then ate some lunch.  I cleaned up the kitchen, did a load of dishes, and put Isla down for a nap all before noon!  Score one for Mom!

After I had Isla situated, I sat down to order the kids' pictures we had taken earlier this month!  I had done most of it, but I just needed to finish it up and submit it off.  Done!  While I was goofing around, I also decided to make a couple of cards using pictures.  I played with some pictures, and ultimately found 2 I thought were cute.  Better yet, they had free coupon codes, so I got them for FREE!  Score another one for Mom!

I managed to fold 2 loads of laundry while Isla napped, update my blog;-), and balance the checkbook!  We are headed to meet some friends at the Sonic playground when Isla gets up.  It has just been a productive day!  Yeah~

Summer Week 1 Update

Last week was the first real week of summer at our house.  We have started off with a boom, though.

Rowan started swimming lessons at one of my student's houses.  It is run by a teacher, and it has been a fabulous experience so far.  This week, he is continuing his lessons and will finish up this week!  Thursday they canceled lessons last week due to the mere 61 degree weather.  Friday we attempted to go, but Rowan got out after 20 minutes saying, "I'm so cold, Mom!"  In his defense, it was cold;-)

Thursday we met many of my school friends at the zoo for an outing.  It was chaos, but fun for the kids as they ran around looking at the animals with their friends.

Saturday was a family day at our house.  We went to the farmer's market here in town and bought some fresh produce.  We also bought monster cookies from our favorite Mennonite tent.  So Yummy!  Then we headed out to Shawnee Lake to do some biking around the lake and let the kids play on the playground.  It was a gorgeous morning, and the kids were adorable soaking it all up.  After naps, we headed out to the Washburn University Art Fair.  The kids made cute little hats, and Alex and I got to look at some amazing art!  It was fabulous.

I have finished a book so far this summer, Fifty Shades of Freed.  It was a fabulous trilogy, but that is a post all of it's own.  I also started working on tagging my clothes for a consignment sale this summer, and cleaned out my lazy susan.  We are off and running!

Summer Life

It is 7:10 a.m.  I am up and showered, but the house is still quiet.  Both kids sleeping soundly in their beds, and Alex just left for work.  What a wonderful pace of life it is this thing called summer.

Today is also our anniversary!  Eight years ago, we got married.  Happy Anniversary, honey!
